Join our guide Doireann as she presents an ‘Introduction to Pond Dipping’ on Saturday & Sunday, the 14th & 15th of October, from 12 pm – 1 pm at the Ballycroy National Park Vistior Centre. In this workshop you will get up close and personal with many forms of pond life partaking in both the collection and analysis of these wonderful life forms.
The variety of life found within the confines of a bog pool or pond is astounding. Many larval stages of flies and other invertebrates including the Dragonfly & Damselfly, Midges, Mosquitoes and Beetles spend their early lives submerged within the depths of these watery ecosystems. Find out more about these and the many other types of species that call these ponds home on the day.
The event is FREE of charge and no booking is required. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Although there is wooden decking surrounding part of the pond, those wishing to participate in the collecting of samples would be advised to bring suitable footwear for wet ground.
